Update 4:55 p.m. July 21:
Uber sent this offer via email to those who didn’t receive their meal during Wednesday’s promotion.
Update 1:30 p.m. July 21:
The response to UberEATS’ offer to make Pecan Lodge available for instant delivery was beyond Uber’s expectations July 20.
Eaters took to Twitter to place their gripes when deliveries were delayed or unable to be fulfilled.
“Whoa! We knew Dallas loved @PecanLodge, but demand was even higher than expected. Don’t blame Pecan Lodge, this one is on us!” Uber tweeted at 12:34 p.m. Wednesday, just over half way into the three-hour-long promotion.
Uber is an innovative company, so we asked what else it’s doing to handle the uproar.
“We are also providing a special offer to people who tried and were unable to request BBQ,” wrote Uber spokeswoman Debbee Hancock in an email Thursday.
Pecan Lodge is known for its mouthwatering barbecue but it’s so in demand that the Deep Ellum restaurant is perhaps just as well known for its long lines.
Like most things nowadays, technology offers a solution.
On July 20, UberEATS will make Pecan Lodge available for instant delivery for one day only anywhere within its service area, said Debbee Hancock, an Uber spokeswoman.
Meals include a brisket sandwich and a side of mac ‘n’ cheese for $12.
The promotion also includes a ticket, along with instructions, to an exclusive party that will take place at an undisclosed park. An RSVP is required.
Then on July 21 at 6 p.m., an Uber driver will pick up customers who ordered Pecan Lodge and drive them to the secret location.
Once there, a special delivery of food will be brought in by drones.
But wait … It gets even better.
The food and drink for the party are free. Uber partnered with Dialexa, a Dallas-based tech company that helps startups launch and get their ideas off the ground, to put on the party.
Here’s how it works:
Download the UberEATS app and order Pecan Lodge on Eats’ Instant menu between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 20. All meals include a ticket to the private party.
If you can’t order Pecan Lodge on July 20, you can still enter for a chance to win a ticket to the party by tagging @UberEATS and @UberDFW on Twitter and share why they’re an UberEATS VIP. Tweets must be received by 1 p.m. on July 21.
On July 21, an Uber driver partner will pick up eaters (plus ones) and take them to the secret location for a private party in the park. Food, drinks, and drones included.
