Uber and Microsoft are teaming up to increase the security of the Uber app that are intended to reduce driving risks, including the new Real-Time ID Check feature.
Real-Time ID Check is Uber’s newest security feature that uses Microsoft Cognitive Services to protect both drivers and riders, Uber said on its blog.
The company began expanding of Real-Time ID Check nationwide on Friday in cities nationwide, including Dallas.
The feature prompts drivers to share a selfie before going online, helping to ensure that the driver using the app matches the account that Uber has on file.
The security feature will prevent fraud and it protects drivers’ accounts from being compromised, the company said. Also, it protects riders who use the app by placing another layer of accountability that the correct person is behind the wheel, Uber said.
