Grindology, a new box subscription service with crafted coffees and expert advice for startups, is sweetening the initial offering with… a golden pickle?
Grindology founder James McKinney is teaming up with the folks at Design Pickle for the service’s launch and a Wonka-esque promotion. Inside one lucky subscriber’s box delivered in January 2021 will be a golden pickle that entitles the bearer to a year’s worth of graphic design services valued at close to $12,000.
“The Golden Pickle Promotion seemed to be the perfect combination of lighthearted fun and pure cost-saving relief that we want to provide to one lucky entrepreneur,” said McKinney in a company release. “Solving business problems is the foundation of what Grindology is all about, so it seemed the perfect fit marketing & promotion-wise.”
Every quarter, Dallas-based Grindology will combine several items designed to appeal to entrepreneurs and new business owners: uniquely crafted coffees to fuel their day, actionable advice from successful startup owners to inform their plans, and a quotable mug to provide inspiration with each sip.
The story behind Grindology begins in failure. After his fourth failed startup attempt, McKinney, a Marine Corps veteran, set out to find a better way to operate. He began interviewing successful founders for his podcast “The Startup Story.”
More than 100 episodes later, he has gathered a wealth of information from folks behind Mailchimp, Farmgirl Flowers, Tesla, and more.
The words of wisdom from the entrepreneurs he interviews on the podcast will be included in the quarterly Grindology magazine, which McKinney said is more like “a tactical manual,” according to his website.
For the launch promotion’s golden ticket pickle winner, Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Design Pickle will offer a designated designer, unlimited design requests and revisions, real-time collaboration, and more.
Grindology also is kicking off their service with 5,000 free samples of coffee, if the subscriber pays the cost of shipping. A quarterly subscription plan runs $49.99 per box. Annual subscribers save more than 10 percent.
