Christopher Curry, a former civil engineer and MBA student at the University of Texas at Dallas, has developed an app that allows you to check out what’s happening in Dallas-Fort Worth every day at any time.
The consumer mobile app called TheHaps focuses on the entertainment industry showing events and promotions in real-time around DFW. Its B2B platform gets the majority of its data from businesses sending in their event calendars.
“Our goal is to be the perfect app for finding something to do on a night out.”

“We specifically focus on drink specials, food specials, concerts, sporting events, arts, and theatre as well as special events and festivals such as SXSW,” Curry told Dallas Innovates. “Our goal is to be the perfect app for finding something to do on a night out.”
A road trip to Colorado left Curry and friends scouring the internet for something fun to do. Their searches turned up nothing. They went out anyway and left with a lackluster experience, he said.
“On the drive back, we discovered we missed out on nightlife and a concert that we would’ve gone to and we were pretty disappointed,” Curry said. “That’s when the idea hit me. There is no one app that you can click on and see what’s going on around you at any given time. So I made it.”
Since then he has added two others to his team — Audra Telkamp, the lead engineer with more than 20 years of software development experience, and her son, Andrew Telkamp, who is the design expert and web developer. The team also has completed seed funding and released its minimum viable product on the App Store and Google Play Store.
“A click on our app takes the user to a map zoomed in on their current location with all of our venues near them shown. Clicking on a business shows what event and promotion they have upcoming, with a special effect for a live event,” Curry said.
Right now the app is only available in the DFW area. If you would like to be included in TheHaps, send your event schedule to [email protected].
