When Google asked students across the U.S. to envision the future for its 16th annual Doodle for Google contest, Alice Kim from McKinney had a clear wish in mind: to become a beekeeper and help protect the vital pollinators.

“I want to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps,” Alice explained in her prompt response. “His love for bees inspired me. He said bees are precious because they have a big impact on balancing the ecosystem. Bees may become extinct if we don’t take care of them.”

Cast your vote through June 4.

Alice’s artwork was selected as the Texas winner out of thousands of entries. She could go on to become one of five national finalists—one of whom will be the national winner.

Google announced the 55 state and territory winners today. Each received Google hardware, swag, and hometown celebrations to honor their achievements. The young artists’ visions for the future ranged from safer communities and technological breakthroughs to a cleaner planet and greater unity.

“Given the challenging nature of the past few years, we were really inspired to see the many ways students have been facing the opportunities and challenges that the future brings,” Google said in a statement.

The public can now vote for their favorite doodles through the end of June 4 to determine the five national finalists. One of them will become the national winner and have their artwork displayed on Google’s homepage for a day.
