Dallas-based Financial Strategies Acquisition Corp. has acquired Texas-based preclinical pharmaceutical company Austin Biosciences Corp.
Financial Strategies is a special purpose acquisition company led by CEO Alexander V. Schinzing. It said that upon the deal’s closing, Austin Biosciences will become a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.

ReCode Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical startup using a non-viral lipid nanoparticle delivery platform for gene therapies, has closed a $120 million extension to a funding round it raised last year to help bring its lead programs to human trials and “follow the science” to target new diseases.
With a research team working out of BioLabs' life sciences facility at Pegasus Park, ReCode aims to grow its global team from about 70 to 100 over the next year.

Nacuity Pharmaceuticals focuses on ocular diseases caused by oxidative stress in the retina, including age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. The $16.5M funding, led by the Foundation Fighting Blindness, will help advance two Nacuity clinical trials.
“This funding will help further our mission to develop a breakthrough treatment for retinitis pigmentosa and other serious blinding and chronic diseases," said Nacuity Chairman, CEO, and Co-founder Halden Conner.
