Submit Your Pick for 2018 ‘Startup Evangelist’

As Dallas Startup Week approaches, organizers are looking to honor someone who "protects and preserves the spirit of the community by being the voice of reason with a 'give first' mentality." Nominations are due by midnight Wednesday.

With Dallas Startup Week rapidly approaching, organizers are asking the community to nominate their candidate for “Startup Evangelist of the Year.”

“The Startup Evangelist protects and preserves the spirit of the community by being the voice of reason with a ‘give first’ mentality and championing community.”

The deadline for nominations is midnight Wednesday. The top five finalists will then be announced Thursday and open voting will run through April 3. The winner will be announced at The State of Entrepreneurship April 4 at the Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas.

The award is given annually to the person in the community who best exemplifies characteristics and behavior supporting entrepreneurs across the Dallas-Fort Worth area said Trey Bowles, co-founder and CEO of The Dallas Entrepreneur Center. This will be the second year for the award. In 2017, Michael Sitarzewski received the title in its inaugural year.

Qualities exhibited by Startup Evangelist candidates should include:

  • Supporting local startups
  • Involved in setting the community ideology and mindset
  • Helping facilitate communication between all the major stakeholders in the community
  • Engaging the community regularly and sharing their ideas to push differing groups of opinion to discover common ground

Here’s how the nomination form summed up what it means to be a startup evangelist:

“It’s not about shouting with a megaphone when news breaks. It’s about having your ear to the ground to enforce transparency in messaging to retain the authenticity of our community and most importantly our entrepreneurs. The Startup Evangelist protects and preserves the spirit of the community by being the voice of reason with a ‘give first’ mentality and championing community.”
