‘Similar Service Companies’: Plano’s Improving Acquires Frisco’s Code Authority

With the merger, Improving plans to bring CodeLaunch—Code Authority's seed accelerator and startup competition—to additional markets in the near future.

Frisco’s Code Authority has been acquired by Improving, a tech consulting and training firm based in Plano with offices across North America. The move is part of Improving’s ongoing “Enterprise Model” strategy of merging similar service companies that share “a genuine commitment to excellence, trust and culture.”

Code Authority is a custom software development and digital marketing firm focused on entrepreneurs and startups. Services include everything from mobile applications to business intelligence and data analytics—all centered around the digital economy.

The Code Authority leadership team will remain intact, including Jason W. Taylor staying on as company president. This aligns with Improving’s post-merger strategy of reinforcing localized ownership while leveraging the value of service offerings across its portfolio.

Of the deal, Taylor said Code Authority was “thrilled,” mentioning the two company’s previous collaborative relationship, which includes partnering on CodeLaunch. He also thanked the City of Frisco and its pro-business infrastructure and institutional support for Code Authority.

“Our merger with Improving is the perfect next step for Code Authority’s growth and vision for the future,” said John Anderson, executive vice president and partner at Code Authority, in a statement. “The incredible organic growth Code Authority has built for over 18 years is a testament to our company’s perseverance and drive.”

CodeLaunch is a seed accelerator event and startup competition that partners early-stage startup winners with developers, investors, and service sponsors.

This summer, Code Authority awarded the first place winners more than $128,000 in seed services, and more than $44,400 in product design, general startup consultation, legal services, social media strategy, coworking space, and creative and digital marketing services.

Improving is now planning on bringing CodeLaunch to new markets in the near future.

“The mutual benefits of joining forces with businesses that have similar company values allows us to advance our ambition of improving the perception of the IT professional,” said Curtis Hite, CEO of Improving. “We continue to be impressed by Code Authority and their leadership team. Improving is excited to see the impact of CodeLaunch spread throughout the country due to Jason W. Taylor’s vision of strengthening the entrepreneurial spirit of the start-up community.”

Improving’s portfolio of acquisitions is focused on Agile, Microsoft (.NET), and Java technologies. The Code Authority deal brings custom software development, cloud computing, mobile app development, and digital marketing to the mix and enhances the range of tech consulting services Improving can offer across its markets.
