The first holographic smartphone will be available from AT&T Inc. this summer.

The Dallas-based telecom giant announced its plans to carry the RED Hydrogen One smartphone this week.

Verizon, which has a major regional presence in Dallas-Fort Worth, said it also will stock the product, but USA Today said the carrier was vague on the release time, only saying “later this year.”

“This revolutionary smartphone will provide you with significant advancements in the way you create and view content.”

“This revolutionary smartphone will provide you with significant advancements in the way you create and view content,” Kevin Petersen, AT&T’s senior vice president of device and network services marketing, said in a news release. “When the RED Hydrogen One launches, you’ll be able to look around, below, and into your screen’s image with a four-view holographic display, which is even better than 3D.”

The phone’s maker, RED, is a leading manufacturer of cinematic camera gear used in Hollywood productions. It’s since-discontinued pre-order pricing was set at near $1,300, but it’s not clear what the price will be through AT&T or Verizon.

Variety reported that what sets this phone apart is that it is able to display 3D content without requiring special glasses or a virtual reality headset.

RED hasn’t disclosed how its technology, dubbed 4-view, works after saying last year that it had developed its own video format.

If you’re in Los Angeles June 2-3, you’ll be able to see the first public look at the phone at Warner Bros. Studios. You’ll need to register for the event here.
