Ready for Your Close-up? “1883” Spinoff Seeks Hundreds of Extras for North Texas Shoots

Calling all “Yellowstone” and “1883” fans: It’s time to stop watching it and start starring in it, if you’re in North Texas later this month.

OK, maybe not starring exactly—the producers are looking for extras to play Union and Confederate soldiers for “1883: The Bass Reeves Story” a spinoff of the hit series “1883.”

Legacy Casting posted on Facebook January 3 that it’s “now casting for Union and Confederate soldiers. We are having fittings this week, next week and the following—to film the last week in January. If you are 16-50 years old and available in Fort Worth, Glen Rose, and Weatherford, TX, email us or let us know your availability on MCF! This will be a FUN project! Pay for filming is $150 for 12 hours. The best way to apply is to create a profile on mycastingfile.com. It’s the best way to keep up with what we’re casting for on this project or any.”

Casting director Andrei Constantinescu told CultureMap Dallas her agency is also seeking Native Americans, specifically Black Seminole men and women—“but really, in the world of extras, we’re looking for all body types, ages, etc.

The new six-part “1883” spinoff stars actor David Oyelowo as a former slave who became one of the first Black U.S. deputy marshals in the West.
