New Jersey-based medical laboratory company Quest Diagnostics is expanding its reach in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and will soon become the provider for the largest network of community oncologists in the nation.
Through its pending acquisition of two affiliated laboratories in Lewisville, Med Fusion and ClearPoint, Quest Diagnostics announced this week it aims to establish a Southwestern hub to provide diagnostics for cancer treatment and care.
Med Fusion and ClearPoint work collaboratively, providing anatomic and reference tests for medical providers. Med Fusion also specializes in oncology, women’s health, and urology testing.
Upon approval, Quest Diagnostics will become an option for providing advanced oncology diagnostics to The Network, consisting of 400 locations across the United States, which includes Texas Oncology. Quest will also offer inpatient and outpatient diagnostics for 12 North Texas Baylor Scott & White Health locations.
“Precision medicine is changing the way we treat cancer and giving new hope to people living with the disease, but too often advanced diagnostics that facilitate the best possible care are out of reach of community oncologists and their patients,” Steve Rusckowski, chairman, president, and CEO of Quest Diagnostics said in a release, “This transaction will not only accelerate Quest’s growth in cancer diagnostics, but also holds the promise of improving care for patients with cancer in Texas and the entire United States.”
Although financial details were not disclosed, the transaction is expected to be complete by later this year pending regulatory approval.
QUEST OPENING 10 CLINICS IN DFW
Along with these laboratories, Quest is also partnering with Albertsons to open 10 clinics within North Texas Albertsons-owned Tom Thumb locations, according to D CEO Healthcare.
Opening by the end of the month, the clinics will provide routine blood tests and services relating to cancer, hepatitis, and diabetes needs. The clinics will be located in Addison, Dallas, Gainesville, Garland, Grand Prairie, Grapevine, Keller, Plano, Rockwall, and Southlake Tom Thumb retail stores.
By the end of the year, Quest projects to open 200 clinics across the nation.
“We know from our long history in the area that patients are highly involved in their personal health decisions,” Keith Ward, Quest’s patient service director for its Southwest region, told D CEO Healthcare. “Operating a Quest location inside Tom Thumb will enable residents to access services in their neighborhoods where they shop.”
Quest currently operates labs in Irving and Houston, as well as many services centers across the state.
