Would you give up your well-paying job that also lets you travel the world to sell razor blades? Well, Patrick Coddou did.
A graduate of the University of Texas, Coddou was hired on at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics as a mechanical engineer and traveled the world selling fighter jets to American allies. Though his job was something most would dream of, his desire to be an entrepreneur led him to start Supply, a men’s grooming company based in Fort Worth.
“I had a good job but, man, ever since I was a kid I’ve always wanted my own company, you know?”
“I had a good job but, man, ever since I was a kid I’ve always wanted my own company, you know? Just wanted to do something on my own and never knew how to do that or had the courage to leap,” Coddou told D Magazine.
The idea was one of many, but Supply was the one Caddou decided to develop and it has been successful in its Kickstarter campaigns. The amount of money pledged was more than 20 times its original goal of $10,000.
“So for our first campaign two years ago, it was a lot of work,” Caddou told D Magazine. “We spent probably two months ahead of launch telling people about what we were doing, reaching out to blogs and press, and we were lucky to just have some really amazing friends and family that spread the word for us.”
Coddou credits a lot of that success to a great press hit on the first day of the campaign from a website called Uncrate. The campaign raised $80,000 in just 30 days.
Within the next year, Coddou plans to release more products such as a travel case and razor stand. The company’s intent is “to own the bathroom.”

“I honestly didn’t think it could be done. I was completely prepared to announce that we had failed to meet the self-imposed deadline. But through sleepless nights, an extra dose of caffeine, and help from some amazing friends, we actually made it,” Caddou wrote in his blog.
