He threw touchdowns for the UT Longhorns and spent 13 seasons on five NFL teams. Now he’s throwing his hat in the real estate ring by launching a new office in Fort Worth.
Colt McCoy is launching the office for HPI, a Texas-based full-service real estate firm. The new office will focus on third-party leasing and management as well as development and acquisition. The office’s initial focus will be on the industrial sector, HPI said.
HPI said it employs over 200 people who serve 900 clients from current offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio,
“Everything we do starts with people, and Colt McCoy is the ideal leader,” Hunter Lee, HPI partner and senior managing director, said in a statement. “I’ve never met anyone more ‘as advertised’ than Colt—as a person, as a father, and as a man of faith. He’s honest, community-minded, and wants to make an impact in planting the HPI flag in Fort Worth.”
McCoy has been “a friend” of HPI for years, the company said. His brother, Case, is a partner with HPI’s Tenant Advisory platform.
From Progressive commercial star to office launcher
The former NFL star—recently seen in a Progressive insurance commercial parodying his role as a backup quarterback—called HPI “an established, first-class organization with nearly 30 million square feet and almost four decades of success in the Texas real estate market.”
“The team does things the right way, every single time, and that foundation means everything to me and my family,” McCoy added in a statement. “I’ve met a lot of great people across the country through football, and now I get to cultivate those relationships in a new way with the support of HPI.”
Settling in the Panther City after years on the road
After years of changing addresses in NFL cities and flying to games nationwide, McCoy said he’s glad to put down roots in North Texas.
“It’s really the first time in my life I’ve been able to choose where I want to live without football dictating my homebase,” he said. “As a West Texas boy at heart, it feels good to be closer to home. Fort Worth is where the Lord led us. It’s the place I want to raise my kids.”
“In football, you expect to win, and you play to win every week. It will be no different as we build out this team,” McCoy added. “If you look at any good organization or team, it comes down to finding people with common goals, passion, and a shared vision. I’ve always loved playing quarterback, and HPI is letting me do that as we build out the Fort Worth presence. Real estate has no boundaries. I’m excited about this next chapter.”
Lee said HPI aims to leverage the success of its Austin and Dallas offices to “build out Fort Worth.”
“These markets complement one another, and we’re excited to stand with Colt as he grows this office,” Lee added.
