Equest’s Hooves for Heroes program is partnering with R4 Alliance to introduce a digital network connecting veterans to a broader selection of integrative wellness services.
South Dallas-based Equest will be one of 10 organizations participating in the R4 Coordinated Care Network which includes recreational, therapeutic, and rehabilitation organizations for veterans and their families across seven states.
Equest Hooves for Heroes program gives veterans a way to transition from military to civilian life through equine-assisted activities and therapies. It has helped more than 600 veterans and military family members in the last five years.
“One of the biggest problems in the veteran community is that veterans are in need of services, but don’t know how to find them,” said Susannah Denney, Equest veteran’s coordinator, in a release.

R4 Alliance is working with technology firm, Unite Us, to launch the digital network, which it hopes will improve veterans’ access to program information.
“The launch of this network is a huge step forward for R4 and the veteran communities we serve,” said Bert Gillette, director of operations for the R4 Alliance, in a release. “The network will enable veterans and their families to access a variety of services that they may not have had access to before and continue our mission of optimizing wellness for our military family through nature and recreation.”
R4 Alliance currently has more than 80 member organizations across the U.S. that offer recreation and integrative wellness services for veterans, service members, and their families.
After the pilot program, R4 intends to add the rest of its member organizations to the digital care network.
