Envision Dallas has received a $1 million gift from Dallas residents Larry and Susan Kimbler that will be used to renovate a new facility to help fulfill the needs of more than 150,000 North Texans who are experiencing vision loss and a lack of available services.
Larry Kimbler is the former American Foundation for the Blind chairman and a member of the Envision board of directors.
Envision is one of the largest service providers to, and employers of, people who are blind or visually impaired in Texas. Envision Dallas said its aim is to provide life-changing opportunities to a population that is often overlooked.
“We’re excited to be a part of the growth of Envision Dallas,” Larry Kimbler said in a statement. “The need for employment opportunities and services is great in the North Texas region. Envision Dallas is committed to improving the lives of people who are blind or low vision.”
The Kimblers’ gift will help fulfill the $2 million Mabee Foundation challenge grant that Envision Dallas recently received.
Relocating and expanding in Farmers Branch
Envision Dallas’s $15 million capital campaign initiative will establish a new state-of-the-art center in Farmers Branch focused on increasing manufacturing and knowledge-based employment opportunities as well as promoting access to resources key to independent living for people with vision loss.
The new Envision Dallas building will be home to the Larry and Susy Kimbler BVI Leadership Center.
“The gift from Larry and Susy is a great testament to the heart they have for people who are blind or visually impaired,” David Stupay, managing director of Envision Dallas, said in a statement. “Larry has dedicated much of his life towards working to further the work of advancing and providing opportunities to them. We are so honored to have him serve on our board of directors and be an integral part of our future.”
Envision Dallas’s campaign, Envision the Possibilities, will be dedicated to relocating the current Dallas operations to a new 210,000-square-foot campus in Farmers Branch. The new campus will nearly double its current size and allow for growth of Envision Dallas’ employment, educational, and rehabilitation services.
