Dallas Arts District is hosting the annual Changing Perspectives Block Party on April 13 to celebrate Dallas Arts Month—and if you go, keep your eyes skyward.
Along with an array of other performers and artists, the free, family-friendly event will feature the return of the internationally renowned BANDALOOP Vertical Dance Company, which celebrates the human spirit, nature, and communities through dance while using climbing technology to expand and challenge what’s possible.
“At a time when the arts are critical to bringing our communities together, I encourage everyone to embrace the rich culture and history of Dallas and welcome all to explore, experience, and enjoy the arts,” Lily Cabatu Weiss, executive director for the Dallas Arts District, said in a statement. “Let’s rediscover the human spirit through the arts!”
An innovator of ‘vertical performance’—plus a big lineup of performers and artists
The Arts District said that as an innovator of vertical performance, BANDALOOP seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality and intricate choreography to turn the dance floor on its side.
The event also will feature award-winning Tejano music artist Monica Saldivar and Band, singer-songwriter and entertainer Dezi 5 Entertainment, community muralist Ebony Lewis, Kamica King, Bruce Wood Dance, Percussion Things, and St. Philips Percussion Ensemble, among others. Also, the party will have gourmet food trucks, a community mural, and more.
Dallas Arts District said it is collaborating with Dallas ISD to bring hundreds of students to a lecture-demonstration by BANDALOOP Vertical Dance Company to Sammons Park in front of the Winspear Opera House and the Brierley Esplanade in front of the Wyly Theatre to discuss the concepts of STEAM inherent in the process of vertical performances.
The Changing Perspectives Block Party will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Sammons Park in the Dallas Arts District. Located in the northeast corner of downtown Dallas, the Dallas Arts District is the largest urban arts district in the nation. It spans 118 acres, and it just celebrated its 40th anniversary.
