The Dallas Historical Society’s Award for Excellence in education has been awarded to Texas Woman’s University Chancellor Carine Feyten for her outstanding contributions to the field.
She was one of nine honorees chosen in August for the society’s excellence awards, which were presented during the organization’s History Makers Awards for Excellence Luncheon on Nov. 17 at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas.
Feyten was recognized “for serving many of Dallas’ educational organizations with a deeply rooted commitment to educational excellence and equal access opportunities,” according to the society’s announcement.
Established in 1981, the awards recognize individuals and organizations in the Dallas community for their contributions to the quality of life in the areas of arts leadership, creative arts, education, history, humanities, philanthropy, sports leadership, and volunteer community leadership.
Feyten is the second chancellor and 11th president of TWU.
She was selected by the TWU board of regents in March 2014 and began her tenure in July of that year. Feyten is the fifth woman to hold the title of president and second to hold the title of chancellor.
