The Last Word: UNT Dallas’ Teresa Espino on Wednesday’s ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ Event

UNT Dallas is hosting a “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” event to enable people to take a stance against sexualized violence. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday October 11 on the university campus at 7300 University Hills Blvd. in Dallas. The public is invited to participate or attend the free event, with no registration required.

Foundation 45, a local nonprofit that offers free mental health and recovery services to the Dallas-Fort Worth creative community, is hosting the event October 21 in Deep Ellum. The organization was founded by the the former drummer of the band Spector 45 after two of his bandmates committed suicide, and strives to help other creatives on their own struggles with mental health.

Saturday's event will begin just down the street from the center beneath an overpass, where attendees will experience the Center’s outdoor installation, “Invisible Deep Ellum,” followed by a live music performance at the new center by the Light Crust Doughboys.

RedBird is donating the space for a 15,000-square-foot childcare facility run by Vogel at the reimagined and revitalized The Shops at RedBird. Called The Rita Sue and Alan Gold Child and Family Center in recognition of the Golds’ longtime support of and service to Vogel, the center will expand Vogel’s reach and offer onsite access to anyone working at RedBird, as well as the community at large.

Green Mountain Energy and HFHCC say that rooftop arrays will allow 14 families to "go solar" in the Habitat chapter's newest development. 35 three- and four-bedroom townhomes at the project are using a mix of traditional materials and repurposed shipping containers to offer energy-efficient, sustainable homes for low- to moderate-income families.

Harwood Park is the fourth "urban neighborhood park" to open since 2019 in downtown Dallas, thanks to a $90 million public-private partnership between the Downtown Dallas Parks Conservancy and the Dallas Park and Recreation Department. This weekend, its "Ghost Mammoth" slides will take center stage in a fun-filled, two-day grand opening event.
