DART Begins Rolling Its First Long-Range Electric Bus Service

Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s first long-range electric bus has begun regular service, with an almost 300-mile range—longer than many private electric vehicles now buzzing around Dallas streets. The 40-foot-long Proterra ZX5 Max achieves that by having six lithium-ion battery packs: four mounted under the bus, and two on the roof.

Wingstop and Buff City Soap—both based in Dallas—have partnered to offer bars of "ranch-scented, ranch-inspired soaps," complete with "faux veggie toppers" as seen above. Last month we told you about Bridge Labs, a $32 million, 135,000-square-foot lab and office expansion that was potentially coming to the Biotech+ Hub at Pegasus Park. Planning documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation now show that potential will become reality next month, when construction on the project is slated to begin. According to marketing materials, Bridge Labs will offer “best-in-class” purpose-built shell lab space plus spec suites ranging from 4,526 square feet to 7,722 square feet.

Farmers Branch plans to break ground next month on Joya at Oran Good Park. "The crown jewel of playgrounds" in the city will have eye-popping interactive features that actually glow in the dark, allowing for both day and evening play. There will also be also a zip line and a 27-foot sphere with six climbing levels. The city says the park could be open by this summer—but we have a video tour of all the magic that you can see right now.

On the same day the Frisco City Council approved zoning for a Universal Theme Park in Frisco, news of another theme park featuring a kid-friendly pig hit North Texas like a cute pink shock wave. Merlin Entertainments, whose brands brands include LEGOLAND, Madame Tussauds, and SEA LIFE Aquariums, is bringing America's second Peppa Pig theme park to Tarrant County's North Richland Hills.

Dallas-based Major League Rugby is looking to raise $100 million to fuel its growth, according to a Bloomberg report. Nic Benson, the league's CEO, "is working with an advisor" on the $100 million raise, Bloomberg added. The league has 12 teams in the U.S. and Canada, including the Dallas Jackals, who had their inaugural season in 2022 and play their home games in Arlington's Chowtaw Stadium, the former home of the Texas Rangers.

The Frisco City Council voted Tuesday to approve the zoning permit for a Universal Studios theme park and adjacent 300-room hotel, despite pushback from some in the community about the park's potential impact on traffic and other concerns. "Welcome to Frisco," Mayor Jeff Cheney said after the vote, according to WFAA, which noted that Frisco estimates the project will bring $1.8 billion in economic impact to the city.

Now the company's Wind-Powered Microgrid has been installed atop its first building in the U.K.—and its owner is the Royal Navy. A new study by Upgraded Points looked into which U.S. airports offer the best lounges, and out of 50 airports, North Texas' own Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport ranked No. 4. "Airport lounges used to be thought of as exclusive places for elite flyers," said Upgraded Points Founder Alex Miller. "But over the last several years these lounges have become a popular attraction for all types of travelers, particularly those dealing with layovers and flight cancellations."
