Farmers Branch Plans ‘Crown Jewel of Playgrounds’ That Glows in Dark for Evening Play

Joya at Oran Good Park will offer a six-level climbing sphere, a zip line with interactive lights, an obstacle course, and more.

Farmers Branch plans to break ground next month on something truly, colorfully new. And it’s going to make lots of kids very happy.

Joya at Oran Good Park will be “the crown jewel of playgrounds” in the city, with eye-popping interactive features that actually glow in the dark, allowing for both day and evening play.

Joya—that’s Spanish for “joy”—will be located at the corner of Tom Field Road and Valley View Lane. At over 18,000 square feet, it will feature a 27-foot sphere with six climbing levels, swings, and slides; a zip line with interactive lights; an obstacle course; a “Spin Zone” with LED lights, and “glowing seating.”

City council members approved the concept in November 2021, with $4,000,000 in funding coming from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act and $750,000 from a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant for the park’s design and construction.
