Report: Dallas & Fort Worth Among America’s Top 3 Pet-Friendly Cities for Renters

When you own your home, you can fill it with all the dogs, cats, gerbils, goldfish, turtles, parakeets, and rabbits you like as long as you don’t go too overboard. But renters face a hurdle: They can only bring theirs to “pet-friendly” rentals. And that turns out to be less of a problem in Dallas and Fort Worth than almost any other city in America.

Dallas is No. 2 and Fort Worth is No. 3 in the U.S. for “Most Pet-Friendly Cities for Renters” in the U.S., according to a new report from Zillow.

These 10 areas offer the highest share of pet-friendly units in the country.

As of January, more than 55% of nationwide rental listings on Zillow allowed pets. But the percentages in North Texas were much higher, with Dallas barking in at 78% and Fort Worth meowing up at 77%.

Only Austin ranked higher, chirping in at No. 1 in the U.S. with 81% of rental listings allowing pets.

The company says it analyzed thousands of its single-family and apartment rental listings to find the cities with the most available units that allow renters to live with their animal companions.
