Dallas College Partners with U. of Arizona Global Campus on Allied Health Programs

Dallas College and the University of Arizona Global Campus are teaming up to offer concurrent enrollment to around 3,000 students with Dallas College Allied Health Programs. The agreement will provide opportunities for Dallas College students who are working on associate degrees to concurrently enroll with UAGC to work on upper division classes—and conceivably graduate at both Dallas College and UAGC at the same time.

Dallas Nonprofit Beyond the Ball Snags a Community Grant from Michael Jordan and Jordan Brands

NBA legend Michael Jordan turned 60 on February 17. To mark the occasion, Jordan and Jordan Brand awarded Beyond the Ball and 47 other U.S. nonprofits a total of $2.3 million in grants. Beyond the Ball aims to prepare Gen Z youth of color to “innovate, lead, and change the world” through STEM, career exploration, and sports intelligence. Its founder and CEO, Erica Molett, says the grant "will enable us to take our youth programming to the next level."

UNT and Dallas-based communications tech company COMSovereign are partnering to develop and launch a new 5G edge-centric infrastructure test platform, funded in part by a grant from the North Central Texas Council of Governments. With the new program, UNT's Dr. Kamesh Namuduri says his team will "be able to expand our focus on wireless connectivity and research into Advanced Air Mobility technologies including UAVs, where UNT is already actively engaged with an expanding network of industry and government partners."

$1M in Federal Funds Boosts Dallas College’s Teacher Residency Apprentice Program

In a Texas First, UT Arlington Team Is Using Plastics To Repair Roads

"One word: plastics." That's the famous career advice from the movie The Graduate. A professor at UT Arlington must have gotten the same message, because 56 years later he's making history by using plastics to repair and stabilize roadways in the DFW area. Dr. Sahadat Hossain—a UTA civil engineering professor and director of the school's Solid Waste Institute for Sustainability—got a grant of around $950,000 from the Dallas district of the Texas Department of Transportation to achieve the first use of “plastic road” material in Texas. The project will begin with work on roads near Kaufman, southeast of Dallas.

Dallas ISD, Toyota, and SMU are partnering with the nonprofit Brother Bill’s Helping Hand on a food pantry and "learning garden" at the West Dallas STEM School. The effort is achieving more than offering healthy food to students and the local community, though, Rogers says. "We want the staff to be able to use the space for hands-on experiences that they may not be able to accomplish in their classrooms," Rogers told the DMN. "We found a site that will give students the greatest opportunity to learn, as well as have the attributes needed to make it successful for years to come."
