Amazon Web Services is partnering with two of the biggest companies in artificial intelligence to present a generative AI hackathon in Plano next month.

Called “Breaking Barriers: A Generative AI Hackathon for Digital Inclusion,” the event will take place September 20-23 at the AT&T Foundry in Plano.

The hackathon is sponsored by Nvidia, which dominates the AI chip market, and Anthropic, the San Francisco company behind the Claude AI chatbot and large language model.

“We’re looking for teams who are interested in building solutions leveraging AWS Generative AI services to drive digital inclusion, social equity and sustainable outcomes,” AWS Developer Advocate Robert Belson told Dallas Innovates via email. ” Whether building apps for personalized education, language translation/accessibility, or sustainable agriculture, we’re eager to see what teams can build.”

Over $15,000 in prize money for groups of up to five team members

The hackathon will be held in person and will be conducted in groups of up to five team members. “Spots are limited,” AWS says.

The hackathon will challenge innovators “to harness generative AI’s transformative capabilities and develop solutions that enable accessible, inclusive, and equitable digital experiences for all.”

The goal: “designing a future where generative AI empowers equitable access to areas like education, healthcare, entertainment, and customer service irrespective of abilities, age, socioeconomic status, education level, or geographic location.”

Examples cited by AWS include ways to generate interactive educational content tailored to diverse learning styles and needs, utilize real-time translation tools to dissolve language barriers, or facilitate easier access to healthcare services for the elderly and underserved populations.

Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry leaders including AWS, AT&T, NVIDIA, Anthropic, and TM Forum to develop solutions for digital equity using cutting-edge generative AI technology.

“Together, we can forge a path towards a truly connected world, leaving no one behind,” AWS said.

All 5 finalist teams will receive passes for TM Forum’s Innovate Americas – AI & Automation event (Sep 24 & 25), where their participation will be promoted and the winners announced.
