Dr. Carol A. Palmer has been named as the new president of Garland-based Amberton University system, succeeding Melinda H. Reagan, who retires after 18 years as the university’s second president.
“We are blessed to have had Dr. Reagan as President for 18 years… and are now blessed to have Dr. Carol Palmer assuming the key leadership role at Amberton University,” board member Mark Parsons said in a statement. “With Dr. Palmer guiding the university, we’re excited for our next chapter at Amberton of providing quality and relevant education with financially responsible opportunities for today’s adult students.”
The university said Reagan has dedicated more than 50 years of service to Amberton University and has been awarded the honorary title of president emeritus.
Palmer began her 14-year tenure with Amberton University as an instructor in the Business Division. Previously, she was vice president for academic services, academic dean, director for business accreditations, business division chair, and professor. Palmer has authored several business courses and has helped launch several new degree programs.
In addition to her roles as a professor and administrator, where she has a proven track record in higher education, Palmer’s experience extends to management and operations in various professional settings.
“I’m incredibly excited to begin this new journey with the board of trustees and my colleagues,” Palmer said. “I’d like to thank the board of trustees, the administration, staff, and faculty for their continued hard work and support.”
With a focus on career-focused programs, flexible learning options, and small class sizes, Amberton University offers both online and in-classroom learning options at its campus locations in Garland and Frisco.
