Highlights include EarthX at Fair Park, the award-winning Denton Redbud Festival, Earth Day Weekend at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, as well as various community events throughout the area. EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

Flower Mound Environmental Services will host this event with activities for adults and kids, including a tree giveaway.

EARTHX

Begins 10 a.m.
Begun in 2011, EarthX is now the largest event of its kind. It is a forum for initiatives, discoveries, research, innovations, and corporate practices impacting our world. This nonprofit’s focus is on connecting the global community on sustainability. Events include EARTHxHack— a 24-hour hackathon — EARTHxFilm which features media that delves into conservation issues, along with other conferences, expos, and speakers. There will also be live music and sustainable beer and food pavilions.

TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE NORTHWEST EARTH DAY 5K/10K
Marine Creek Reservoir, adjacent to the TCC Northwest Campus, in Fort Worth
Begins at 8 a.m.
TCC Northwest invites everyone to participate in their 5K and 10K run around the Marine Creek Reservoir trail, right next to campus. Proceeds will go to the Marine Creek Nature Discovery Center — whose goal it is to create an outdoor classroom at TCC Northwest — as well as the Community Link food pantry.

KEEP GRAPEVINE BEAUTIFUL’S EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

This family event will feature vendors, educational presentations, crafts, and guidance on how to live environmentally friendly. Events include Couch Potato Composting, Container Gardening, and more.

CLEAN IT & GREEN IT

As a Keep Texas Beautiful Affiliate, the City of Frisco invites volunteers to participate in cleaning areas near their homes, workplaces and schools. At 11 a.m., lunch, bounce houses, face painting, and games will be provided for volunteers. A raffle will also be held.

The Denton Redbud Festival returns for its 24th year to celebrate Arbor Day. In 2014, Keep Denton Beautiful Inc. was awarded the Outstanding Arbor Day Activities Award from the International Society of Arboriculture and the Texas Forest Service for this festival. This family-friendly festival includes live music, as well as vendors selling trees, plants, gardening supplies, and other local items.

Earth Day Weekend at the Dallas Arboretum features special activities from UT Dallas. Saturday events hosted by UT Dallas’ School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics will include Brain Games, Cool Chemistry, Physics Circus and more. Sunday features a bee colony in the Children’s Garden.

The 2nd Annual Earth Day Mansfield includes a Catch & Release Kids Fishing Derby, adult education speakers and booths, music, dancers, natural product vendors, silent auction, food trucks, beverages and more. The H2Grow area will educate listeners on cultivating a yard that requires less water, pesticides and fertilizers. Water 360 features a Q&A with the Director of Water Utilities and Environmental Manager.
