“I couldn’t convince anyone to move to [Silicon] Valley but I’ve had 100% success moving people to Dallas.”

Mike Fey—co-founder and CEO of Dallas-based enterprise browser unicorn Island—launched his company in 2020 during the pandemic and has since seen its valuation rocket to $3 billion. Speaking at the Venture Dallas summit last week, he talked about why he decided to found his company in Dallas instead of in Silicon Valley.
“We have the capacity for massive organizations [in DFW] and as a startup, it’s a great place to be because I’m not fighting with 7,000 freshly funded startups,” Fey said, according to the Dallas Business Journal’s Holden Wilen. “Everybody isn’t asking me what their equity table looks like.”
