Stacey Doré will join Vistra as its first chief strategy and sustainability officer and executive vice president of public affairs, the company announced.

As of August 23, she’ll be responsible for corporate strategy, sustainability, regulatory and government affairs, communications, and community engagement at the Irving-based Fortune 500 power company.

Doré, who climbed the ladder as a corporate counsel, will report to Jim Burke, Vistra’s president and chief executive officer in the new role.

She’s a “respected, proven leader who has a broad understanding of both our company and our industry,” Burke says. Doré previously worked for Vistra’s predecessor companies,

“Her diverse background spans not only competitive power generation, retail, and commercial activities, but also in related businesses, including transmission and distribution, as well as natural gas,” he said in a statement.

The industry is going through considerable changes, Burke says. Integrating strategy, sustainability, and public affairs efforts “will further solidify our commitment to decarbonizing our fleet, growing Vistra Zero, and to the broader energy transition and the leading role Vistra will play.”

Doré says she’s honored to join the company at such a pivotal time in the company’s growth and transformation.

“Vistra is a leader in the energy transition and plays a critical role in meeting the needs of customers and communities across the U.S. during a time of rapid change in the industry,” she said in a statement. “This company is at the forefront of responsibly transitioning our country’s power grid, and I’m excited about Vistra’s future.”

Doré, who was named to D CEO’s Dallas 500 last November, “chose to be a lawyer because I love to write, and I love to advocate,” she told the publication.

Looking ahead, she said, “There are huge opportunities for innovative and flexible businesses to meet the energy needs of our growing economy and to positively impact our community while doing so.”

Most recently, Doré was president and CEO of Hunt Utility Services and Sharyland Utilities, an electric utility within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas market from 2019 to 2021. Before that, she was senior vice president and general counsel for publicly traded InfraREIT, Inc., which is an electric transmission and distribution company structured as a real estate investment.

Doré, who began her career as an attorney at Vinson & Elkins in 1997, joined Vistra’s predecessor companies in 2008 as part of the legal team where she served in several leadership roles, including executive vice president and general counsel.

She’s also on the board of Williams, an energy infrastructure company with operations in the natural gas value chain. She holds a juris doctor from Harvard Law Schoo, as well as a bachelor’s degree in journalism from University of Southwestern Louisiana.
