DISCOTECH wants to transform guests into pop idols during this multi-sensory exhibit opening in Dallas’ Victory Park on May 25.
Sweet Tooth Hotel is collaborating with px.lab to bring together electronic music and new media for interactive audio-visual installations. After guests check into the Sweet Tooth Hotel lobby and go through two gallery spaces, they will put on a pair of “silent disco headphones” and enter the world of DISCOTECH.
Although this exhibit is interactive, Sweet Tooth Hotel does not consider itself part of the “Instagram Pop-Up” trend. Instead, it emphasizes original art installations and wants to be a platform for DFW artists. Two solo exhibitions will be showcased outside of this installation’s main theme, featuring Dallas-based artists Tramaine Townsend and Shamsy Roomiani.
DISCOTECH is the third chapter since the Sweet Tooth Hotel’s inception in 2018. The first two chapters, “Sweet Tooth Hotel” and “1955,” were instant successes with both exhibits selling out of tickets. For this chapter, Sweet Tooth Hotel hopes to make the installations more interactive than ever with substantial music integration and a focus on the “single-user experience.”
“One of the cool things about Sweet Tooth is that it’s not just who we’re working with, but the photographers and videographers that are coming in. There’s this whole other level of creation that’s happening on top of it,” Jencey Keeton, co-founder of Sweet Tooth Hotel, told D Magazine. “And people are so happy when they’re in.”
