The Last Word: The Message (in a Tiny Coffin) That Dallas’ Embark Is Sending to CFOs Nationwide

“Consulting is dead.”

…from a new campaign blitz by Dallas business consulting firm Embark.

Why would a business consulting firm tell CFO’s nationwide that “Consulting is dead”? An even bigger question: Why would it do this by sending tiny coffins marked “RIP Consulting” to CFOs nationwide?

That’s just what Dallas-based Embark did recently, after launching its “Consulting is Dead” rebrand and marketing campaign with a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal. The ad actually said “Consulting is Dead. Long Live Consulting”—proclaiming the death of the traditional consulting model and replacing it with Embark’s new standard for industry growth by focusing on “happiness” from its 17 offices across the U.S.

The “tongue-in-cheek” national marketing campaign—from L.A.-based creative agency Angry Gods—nailed the idea home by sending “physical coffin-shaped boxes” with a copy of the Wall Street Journal ad inside to CFOs across the U.S.

Embark said it would cap things off by staging a “funeral procession” through New York City, with a hearse adorned in ornate floral arrangements spelling ‘RIP Consulting.’”
