Denton-based outdoor startup Upventur has named Gabriel Killian to lead the company’s new Central and South American division.
Denton-area entrepreneur, Killian, has been name Director of Business Development in Central and South America.
“It’s really about connecting service providers that are there in the area and bringing them under the Upventur umbrella, and finding ways to mutually benefit one another,” Killian said of his new role.
Costa Rica is the company’s strategic target, he said.
“The Latin American market is community oriented, so I am certain opportunities to expand to neighboring countries will naturally present themselves.”

Founder and CEO Craig Pettigrew said Killian’s mission is to build Upventur’s presence in Latin America by expanding service provider offerings and user communities.
“It takes our brand globally. We also have opportunities to expand into Europe and other areas of the world, and we need to be able to attack these markets at one time because there is a lot of cross-pollination for users and travelers around the world,” Pettigrew said.
Upventur offers outdoor enthusiasts and hobbyists a place to connect with fellow explorers, service providers, and experts. The company dates back to 2012, but its social media platform for the outdoor industry launched this summer.
The startup also offers athletes of all types a platform to share their passion for their games and to connect with fans and other outdoor adventurists.
