Harold Simmons Park’s Prelude: Free Solar Eclipse Celebration at Trinity River on April 8

It's been 146 years since the last total solar eclipse wowed viewers in Dallas. The Trinity Park Conservancy says its April 8 event at the Ron Kirk Bridge and Felix Lozada Gateway will offer "a truly unique" way to experience the next one.

A free, “one-of-a-kind” celebration of the April 8 total solar eclipse will be hosted by Trinity Park Conservancy at the Ron Kirk Bridge and Felix Lozada Gateway.

The conservancy is the nonprofit behind the much-anticipated Harold Simmons Park along the Trinity River near downtown Dallas.

It’s been 146 years since the last occurrence of a total solar eclipse in Dallas, and the conservancy said its April 8 event will offer “a truly unique experience.”

Here are the event details for the Solar Eclipse at The Trinity River event:

  • Date: Monday, April 8
  • Time: Noon to 2 p.m.
  • Location: Ron Kirk Bridge and Felix Lozada Gateway on the Trinity River
  • Admission: Free to the Public
 

A DJ, games with prizes, STEAM activities, and interactive educational booths

The event will feature a lineup of entertainment and activations, including live performances from DJ K Sprinkles, engaging hands-on STEAM activities, solar eclipse-themed games featuring prizes, and interactive educational booths. Renowned STEAM educator Jennifer Stimpson, Ed.D., will guide attendees, including 1,000 elementary school students from Dallas ISD embarking on a special field trip to this event, through the celestial marvel while emphasizing a STEAM education perspective.

The first 3,000 attendees will receive complimentary solar eclipse glasses. Attendees can register here.

Harold Simmons Park will be the premiere park of Dallas situated along the river, framed by the Ronald Kirk Bridge to the North and the Margaret McDermott Bridge to the South. Encompassing more than 250 acres, Harold Simmons Park is located to connect West Dallas, Oak Cliff, and downtown Dallas, across the Trinity River.
