Topaz Labs Is Expanding Its Addison HQ, Plans 130 New Tech Jobs

Founded in the CTO's guest bedroom in 2006, Addison-based Topaz Labs has enhanced over 1 billion photos worldwide with its "one-click," deep learning-based image and video editing software. With a $200K grant from the town of Addison, it's nearly tripling the size of its HQ as it sharpens its focus toward growth.

Picture this: A North Texas company helps 1.5 million customers worldwide upscale & sharpen their photos and videos with one click. And now Topaz Labs is making one more move—by nearly tripling its headquarters in Addison on the way to 130 new high-tech hires.

Topaz helps everyone from companies to cinematographers to selfie-takers achieve “razor-sharp images” via its Gigapixel AI image and video editing software. Upload blurry photos or low-res video to the company’s software, click a button, and—almost like magic—they’ll be transformed into sharply focused, high-res, print-quality images.

Now—after processing over 1 billion images for customers worldwide—Topaz Labs is tripling down on its headquarters in Addison by becoming the sole office tenant at Building 900, the newest building in Village on the Parkway. The company will lease 28,208 square feet of office space—up from its current 7,000 square feet—and aims to invest “at least $2.5 million” to customize it with innovation labs and collaborative workspaces.

The town of Addison awarded a $200,000 Amenities and Collaboration grant to Topaz Labs to support the expansion. Topaz Labs expects to add 130 high-tech jobs by the end of 2027, “further contributing to Addison’s reputation as a hub for innovation and technology,” the town said.

Founded not in a garage, but in a guest bedroom

Feng “Albert” Yang

In 2006, Feng “Albert” Yang founded Topaz Labs in his guest bedroom (“garage is too hot in Texas,” he jokes on LinkedIn.) A former assistant professor at China’s Harbin Institute of Technology, Yang developed the deep learning-based image and video enhancement software that has driven Topaz Labs’ success.

In 2024, Yang was named to Dallas Innovates’ inaugural AI 75 list, presented in partnership with the Dallas Regional Chamber and Dallas AI. The list honors the top visionaries, creators, and influencers driving AI breakthroughs in North Texas.

Yang remains a Topaz advisor but stepped down as the company’s president and CTO in 2021. His son and co-founder, Eric Yang, is the company’s CEO.

“We’re so excited for the future of Topaz Labs in Addison,” Eric Yang said in a statement last week. “We sought a vibrant, safe, and energetic community with like-minded professionals doing their best work. We’ve found all of that in Addison.”

Wayne Emerson, Addison’s director of economic development, calls Topaz Labs “exactly the kind of company we love to see grow here in Addison.”

“Their innovative work in AI and commitment to the town make them the perfect partner,” Emerson added in a statement. “We’re also thrilled for their employees, who will enjoy working in a brand-new, highly amenitized building surrounded by great restaurants, entertainment options, and walkable amenities at Village on the Parkway.”

“This transformative lease aligns seamlessly with Topaz Labs’ rapid growth in the AI industry, as well as our partnership with the town of Addison,” added Nick Lee, president of the office division and principal at commercial real estate firm NAI.
