“Y’all don’t even know what y’all are missing!”

.…on the “Y’all” flap between Texas Monthly and the New York Times, via LinkedIn.
Fort Worth-based Ratliff is one of many North Texans who’ve weighed in on the Texas Monthly story In Defense of “Y’all,” a Perfect Word. Writer Dan Solomon wrote the piece in response to a New York Times opinion column which pooh-poohed “y’all” as “much too slangy, regional or what you might even call ethnic to ever gain universal acceptance.”
“There’s no need to resist ‘y’all.’ It’s an inviting word. Y’all are welcome to use it,” Solomon writes, noting that research has shown the word to be “widely used outside Texas and the South, and that younger Americans in those non-Southern parts of the country were much more likely to use ‘y’all’ than their older counterparts.”
Kelly Cloud, VP of economic development for life sciences at the Dallas Regional Chamber, posted the TM story on her LinkedIn page. Chris Lester, chief sales officer at Plano’s Catapult Solutions Group, responded by saying, “Y’all will be forever in the list of words I use the most. I even use it in emails. Why you ask. Well because it has a very broad usage, isn’t offensive, oh and it is quick to say.”
What do all y’all think? Here at Dallas Innovates, we’re Team Y’all and aim to stay that way.
