“Sports is the original reality TV. You don’t know what’s gonna happen every night and people tune in for that.”
Jim Cochrane
EVP and Chief Business Officer
Texas Rangers
.…on the team’s regular season debut of its in-house Rangers Sports Network, via the Dallas Business Journal.
It’s opening day across Major League Baseball, and the Texas Rangers began the season at 3:05 p.m. with a 5-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Globe Life Field. Meanwhile, on screens across North Texas, viewers got to see the first-ever regular season broadcast by the team’s new in-house Rangers Sports Network.
After winning the World Series for the first time ever in 2023, the Rangers are going for the trophy again this year—now with the team’s very own TV sports network capturing every swing. The team also hopes to surpass last year’s revenue of $425 million and Globe Life attendance of 2.65 million.
“On the business side, we can’t control what happens on the field, right?” Cochrane told the Dallas Business Journal’s Holden Wilen. “But we want to make sure when somebody leaves that they had a great time here.”
The current list of partners slated to carry the Rangers Sports Network this season includes DirecTV, DIRECTV STREAM, AT&T U-verse, Spectrum, Fubo, and Astound.
In-market viewers can also watch RSN by downloading the Victory+ app and subscribing to RSN’s streaming offering, to see around 150 Texas Rangers regional TV broadcasts this season.
You can read more about the RSN launch by reading the DBJ story.
