The Last Word: From ‘I Do’ to ‘I’m Done,’ How Dallas-Based Divorceaversary Gives Divorce and Breakups a Positive Spin

“Instead of focusing on the pain of a breakup, we help people celebrate the opportunities that come with starting over.”

Tom Kenjarski

Divorceaversary
.…on how his new Dallas-based startup is transforming how people approach life after divorce and breakups.

Divorceaversary is a new Dallas-based startup that puts a positive spin on the aftermath of going from “I do” to “I’m done.” Aiming to transform how people approach life after divorce and breakups, its e-commerce site offers cards that celebrate new beginnings—in humorous, edgy, even NSFW ways. Some cards offer great advice (“I know things are bad but don’t get bangs”), others are supportive (“Divorce looks good as hell on you”), and others express relief (“No one ever liked that asshole anyway”).

Co-founders Tom and Larissa Kenjarski launched their business this year after spotting a growing trend of people seeking to “reclaim joy” after a relationship tanks.

“In May 2022, I met my wife and partner in crime, Larissa,” Tom wrote in a LinkedIn post. “Together, we rose from the ashes of failed relationships, and quickly noted [that] divorce brought us together. On one of our first dates, we lamented that the type of cards we wanted to send our “it’s complicated” friends (or we would have liked to receive) were hard to find, or just not available. That same month, Larissa and I gave birth to Divorceaversary.”

You can check out their cards—including dishy F-bomb drops we didn’t share here—by visiting Divorceaversary’s website.
