The DEC, North Texas Angel Network Announce Partnership at Dallas Startup Week

The organizations say the partnership is aimed at boosting innovation, deal flow, and company launches in North Texas.

A strategic and operational partnership between some of North Texas’ biggest startup supporters aims to boost innovation, deal flow, and company launches in North Texas.

The DEC Network and the North Texas Angel Network announced Wednesday at Dallas Startup Week’s State of Entrepreneurship address plans to form the partnership.

“As an investor-focused organization, NTAN exists to present quality, early-stage investment opportunities to our membership and to nurture active angel investing in our region overall. By aligning with The DEC, we will more rapidly tap into opportunities and increase our visibility,” NTAN Board Chair Chris Wilkes said in a statement. “More so, leveraging The DEC’s operational excellence allows our increased focus on evaluating and investing in strong founders and ideas.”

Both organizations will continue as separate entities and plan to commence the partnership on May 1.

The DEC CEO Alyce Alston says North Texas long has long been associated with “solid, savvy entrepreneurs and investors—and a growth trajectory that is enviable.”

The partnership could have lasting impact, she says.

“As the market evolves, connections become more paramount for the success of our entire ecosystem,” Alston says. “Our partnership with NTAN will open doors to angel funding sources for entrepreneurs and offer leadership and operational support for the NTAN organization.”

In its 10-year history, NTAN says its members have invested more than $10 million in startup organizations—including investments totaling more than $1 million each from NTAN members in such businesses as Ikonopedia, Natural Dental Implants, Tella Firma, and Vital Arts & Science.

Last year, NTAN members made investments in Natural Dental Implants, Pheramor, Stocked Robotics, teleCalm, and TeVido, among others, according to a release.

The collaboration’s strategic, revenue, operational, and marketing elements are aimed at attracting and introducing entrepreneurs and angel investors more efficiently and effectively, NTAN says.
