Trinity Park Conservancy expanded its advancement team with two directors of philanthropy as it advances Harold Simmons Park, a $325 million, 250-acre project along the Trinity River featuring a 40,000-square-foot event lawn, a six-tower playground, and more.
The "transformational" park along the Trinity River near downtown Dallas will feature a 40,000-square-foot event lawn, an event center, a "six-tower" playground, a water play area, picnic groves, a skate and bike park, a unique cable ferry, and more. And as last night's event showed, fun will be had by all.
Slated for The Cedars neighborhood south of downtown and near the Trinity River, the proposed Therme Dallas will feature "thermal baths, saunas, mineral pools, lush greenery, waterslides, swim-up bars, and a variety of dining options" while offering guests "holistic wellbeing experiences."
River Central—a planned 400-acre mixed-use development—is slated to spread along the meandering Trinity River through Fort Worth and Grand Prairie south of DFW Airport.

It's been 146 years since the last total solar eclipse wowed viewers in Dallas. The Trinity Park Conservancy says its April 8 event at the Ron Kirk Bridge and Felix Lozada Gateway will offer "a truly unique" way to experience the next one.
For decades, Dallas has dreamed of a transformational park along the Trinity River near downtown Dallas. This week, the Trinity Park Conservancy announced that a groundbreaking will finally happen in 2024. The 250-acre Harold Simmons Park will offer community-uniting nature, a stunning playground with towers and tube slides, a prairie walk, a two-acre bike and skate park, overlooks with views of the greenway and the city skyline, and more.
The project aims to reroute part of the Trinity River near downtown Fort Worth and create Panther Island—which the city hopes will become a massive housing and mixed-use entertainment and recreational district. The new 2023 funding is on top of $403 million already allocated to the project as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2022.
The Dallas Water Commons project, slated to break ground in 2024, will transform an industrial site in Dallas' Cedars neighborhood into something both beautiful and purposeful: a public wetlands park with hike and bike lanes that will cleanse and filter 650 million gallons of run-off stormwater each year. A big bonus: protecting the wetlands habitat and the species that live and breed there.
"This is a game changer for Dallas," says Vickie Meeks, a local artist and member of the project’s advisory board.
The first-ever outpost of Karl's Fishing & Outdoors aims to hook you with Mystery Tackle Boxes, interactive "bait tech" experiences that play for each lure you grab off the wall, and a 40-foot "Bassmobile" parked outside today through Sunday.
Karl's "promises to deliver an experience that hasn’t been seen in the outdoor category," says the retail experience director for its parent company, Catch Co.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced plans Wednesday to spend $403 million on the final design and build of a 1.5-mile flood-control bypass channel, which will reroute part of the Trinity River near downtown Fort Worth—and create Panther Island.
Fort Worth hopes the 800-acre island will become a massive housing and mixed-use entertainment and recreational district, connecting downtown Fort Worth to the city’s cultural district and the Stockyards.
Powered by the sun and the river's current, two Trinity River Waterwheels will be able to capture tons of floating pollution daily—keeping the waterway pristine as it flows through Fort Worth. The city council voted Tuesday to accept private donations to support the initiative. One official says the results will be "astonishing."
A group of industry, nonprofit, and governmental organizations—including Texan by Nature, Molson Coors, Coca-Cola, Frito-Lay and PepsiCo, and Keurig Dr Pepper—have formed the Texas Water Action Collaborative to improve the water quantity and quality of the Trinity River.
