CAT's move is “in the best strategic interest of the company,” said Chairman and CEO Jim Umpleby.

The heavy-machinery maker has a long history of innovation, from the first commercially successful track-type tractor to drone technology to autonomous solutions for mining trucks. Caterpillar's Electric Power division, already housed in Irving, is a unique organization supporting a variety of industries with reliable power technology.
