Dallas Symphony Orchestra Announces Education Center In Cooperation with MIT Media Lab

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has announced plans for the Jeanne R. Johnson Education Center in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center that will serve students from first grade through high school.

The center is scheduled to open in fall 2024.

“The Johnson Education Center represents a bold vision for the next era of music education in Dallas and delivers on our ongoing commitment to make meaningful impact on children across Dallas in music education,” Cece Smith, chair of the DSO board of governors, said in a statement....

The newly created Dallas Economic Development Corporation is a nonprofit aimed at attracting new businesses to the city, while supporting economic and workforce development. Formed with the help of $7 million in federal money from the American Rescue Plan Act, the Dallas EDC now has its first board of directors, after receiving approval from the Dallas City Council. “The corporation will play an integral part in growing the Dallas business community, and we need passionate and qualified people at the helm,” said Councilmember Tennell Atkins, chairman of the city’s Economic Development Committee.

Created and directed by Sibylle Szaggars Redford, the one-night-only performance will be at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas on October 22. "The marrying of all these disciplines to tell the story of our Earth resonated with me, and I know it will resonate with audiences," says the DSO's CEO.
