The Last Word: On Dallas Spending Up to $15M to Snag World Cup Int’l Broadcast Center

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is already expected to have $400 million in economic impact on Dallas-Fort Worth, with nine matches scheduled for AT&T Stadium—more than any of the other 15 host venues in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. But Dallas is aiming for even more. The Dallas City Council voted Wednesday to spend up to $15 million in improvements on the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center to help the city's bid to host the World Cup's International Broadcast Center.

Returning to the U.S. for the first time in seven years, the Corporate Council on Africa’s annual U.S.-Africa Business Summit will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas. With consumer spending in Africa slated to hit $2 trillion in 2025—and with some of the largest African diasporas living right here in North Texas—the summit could offer "immense business opportunities," the city said.
