Immersive Gamebox, a London- and Dallas-based group gaming company with two North Texas locations at Grandscape in The Colony and in Deep Ellum in Dallas, launched its new Tetris 1991 experience in late January and invited a special guest to kick it off: 13-year-old Willis Gibson, who earlier that month became the first person to "beat" the Nintendo Entertainment System version of Tetris.
With the first-ever Major League Cricket match looming Thursday in Grand Prairie, the sport of cricket is catching on in DFW. Sixes Social Cricket, a London-based immersive entertainment concept, opened at Grandscape on June 17 to help North Texans get in the swing of things.
Like all the others, the Deep Ellum location offers interactive, digital games played by groups in "fun smart rooms." As you can see from the goggle-less players above, it's not about AR or virtual reality. Instead, the "gameboxes" feature a range of tech including projection mapping, touch screens using the company's patented Lidar, 3D motion tracking, and surround sound.
The award is presented annually by Retail and Leisure International, the world's only global magazine for the retail and leisure industry. Grandscape was noted for innovative retail and entertainment offerings that range from the 180-foot Grandscape Wheel to new concepts like Puttery and Electric Gamebox, along with crowd-pleasing attractions like Jurassic Park: The Exhibition.
