Fort Worth-based Bell has announced an April construction start for its $632 million factory in North Fort Worth, which will build parts for the U.S. Army's MV-75 Future Long Range Assault Aircraft. Collins—which operates facilities in Richardson and Haltom City—will be delivering five critical systems for the aircraft, which is replacing the famed Black Hawk helicopter.
The factory in AllianceTexas will build parts for the U.S. Army's new Bell MV-75 Future Long Range Assault Aircraft, which replaces the famed Black Hawk helicopter. The project, which was awarded in late 2024, could potentially be worth around $70 billion across the life of the MV-75 fleet.
Two years after winning the U.S. Army’s biggest helicopter competition in 40 years—replacing the famed Black Hawk with a Future Long Range Assault Aircraft—Fort Worth-based Bell Textron announced a new factory in AllianceTexas will manufacture components for the next-gen tilt-rotor aircraft.
Fort Worth's “explosive growth”—nearly 6% population growth since 2020—isn't happening by accident. It takes what Economic Development Director Robert Sturns calls "full-contact local government," a term once coined by the city manager to describe Fort Worth's unique approach to progress.
The facility will support the "safe, rapid, and efficient" integration and test of next-gen fly-by-wire tiltrotor and mission systems, using a modular open systems approach for the U.S. Army's Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft, Bell said.
Fort Worth-based Bell Textron's Bell 505 took flight using 100% sustainable aviation fuel made from used cooking oil, other bio-based feedstocks, and renewable plant sugars. "This flight is a monumental achievement for sustainability and decarbonization in the rotorcraft industry,” said Michael Thacker, EVP of commercial business at Bell.
The Army's biggest helicopter competition in 40 years has a winner in Fort Worth. Bell Textron's V-280 Valor is slated to replace around 2,000 Black Hawk helicopters by 2030—with a tiltrotor design that lets it take off like a chopper and fly like a plane.
Designed for long-range assault missions, the Valor's initial contract is worth up to $1.3 billion. But the program could ultimately be worth $70 billion across the life of the fleet, including foreign military sales, Defense News reports.
NASA is looking to shape the future of flight, and Bell is on board. Its drone was able to successfully detect and avoid other objects in the airspace while integrating with its ground-based radar surveillance system. Bell says the flight test will aid in expanding the industry, as things like drone delivery services and air taxi companies mature.
The deal with the Arlington Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) could create up to 230 full-time jobs at the planned 50,000 square-foot facility, to be completed before the end of 2023. It's the first agreement struck by the AEDC; Bell Textron is expected to invest $22 million in the lab itself, reports the Star-Telegram.
The demonstration marks the first point-to-point unmanned aircraft system delivery in North Texas—showing the future capabilities of commercial operations.
