Simplilearn, a Blackstone-backed digital upskilling company, has named Sudipto Mitra chief revenue officer for its commercial business.
Mitra brings more than two decades of leadership experience across digital transformation, business development, and management consulting. At Simplilearn, he will oversee global revenue growth, partnerships, and commercial expansion, the company said.
The CRO appointment follows a series of recent moves tied to generative AI and workforce training. In June, the company named Jitendra Kumar chief technology officer to lead what it described as an “AI-first strategy.” In July, Simplilearn expanded its free SkillUP learning platform with more than 100 new generative AI courses, citing rising interest in AI skills among companies and professionals.
In a statement, founder and CEO Krishna Kumar said Mitra’s appointment supports the company’s commercial strategy as it adapts to shifts in digital skills demand.
Startup leadership, Fortune 500 experience
Before joining Simplilearn, Mitra held sales and go-to-market leadership roles at Accenture, WNS, and EDS in the U.S., managing large global teams focused on IT outsourcing and business process transformation. He later served as a partner and industry leader at IBM Consulting, where he led a global team of more than 9,000 professionals and oversaw large-scale digital transformation initiatives for Fortune 500 companies.
In 2017, Mitra became chief revenue officer at enterprise automation firm WorkFusion, where he played a role in scaling the company ahead of an investor-led acquisition in 2021, according to Simplilearn.
Mitra also has held advisory and business development roles across multiple innovation-driven industries.
Mitra said he approaches new roles by pairing prior experience with close attention to how industries are evolving, particularly as AI reshapes workforce needs.
“Edtech is at an exciting stage of aligning learners with the future of work driven by AI and emerging technologies,” Mitra said in a statement.
“Enterprises need to upskill and cross-train employees to become more efficient and compete,” he added. “Learners are also looking to upskill to advance their career paths across all levels.”
He said Simplilearn’s focus on combining academic rigor with practical, job-relevant content was a key draw. “I’m excited to be part of the organization,” Mitra said, pointing to the company’s emphasis on high-quality course delivery for professionals worldwide.
Founded in 2010, Simplilearn said it delivers more than 1,500 live online classes each month across more than 150 countries and has served more than 8 million learners worldwide.
