University of Texas at Dallas alumna Courtney Caldwell has been selected as one of three finalists for L’Oréal USA’s Women in Digital NEXT Generation Awards.
The beauty company’s annual awards program recognizes female entrepreneurs in the digital space and provides avenues for developing new technologies within L’Oréal brands.
In 2016, Caldwell created the ShearShare app with her husband, Tye, as a way to fill empty barbershop and salon chairs on demand. Now, the startup has six employees and the app is in use across 375 cities in 11 countries. ShearShare has expanded to include day rental space for estheticians, makeup artists, nail technicians, and massage therapists.
“It’s a testament to how female founders everywhere are transforming the future of beauty and truly shaping the next generation of beauty.”

Other Women in Digital award finalists include Siqi Mou, founder of the personalized skincare chatbot app, HelloAva, and Shine co-founders Naomi Hirabayashi and Marah Lidey whose texting service puts well-being at the front of mind for users through daily messages.
Finalists will present their companies in front of marketing executives during L’Oréal USA’s Inspiration Day in New York City. One entrepreneur will be offered a chance to develop a pilot project with L’Oréal USA.
“I’m beyond excited to represent our home state of Texas as a 2017 L’Oreal Women in Digital finalist,” Courtney Caldwell said. “It’s a testament to how female founders everywhere are transforming the future of beauty and truly shaping the next generation of beauty.”
