Plano’s StaffDNA Acquires Per Diem Healthcare Staffing Business of Seattle-Based Kevala

This is the first time that the proprietary technology of the StaffDNA candidate app will integrate with a third-party system, the company said.

Plano-based StaffDNA is acquiring the per diem staffing business of Seattle-based Kevala, including its active and passive candidate database. The two companies also plan to integrate their technologies.

“Growth is an important part of our business goals, so we’re very pleased to onboard all of Kevala’s per diem candidates,” StaffDNA CEO Sheldon Arora said in a statement.

Arora said per diem care at long-term care facilities is a rapidly growing segment of the healthcare industry. Per diem roles are short-term healthcare shifts, typically filled on a day-by-day basis to meet immediate staffing needs.

The CEO, who founded StaffDNA in 2013 to modernize healthcare staffing through technology, said the acquisition will help the company “grow in new markets and add more talent to our pool of active candidates.”

He called per diem staffing “a strategic opportunity,” citing rising demand for workforce flexibility and a continued shortage of certified care professionals. “We’re also thrilled to work with Kevala to increase our technology footprint in facilities,” he said.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The integration marks the first time StaffDNA’s proprietary candidate app will connect with a third-party system, the company said. Its technology platform will now work alongside Kevala’s client-facing tools to deliver what StaffDNA described as “the most powerful staffing services available for facilities.”

Working ‘on their own terms’

With the acquisition, StaffDNA said it is set to significantly expand its candidate pool, as Kevala divests its per diem candidates in Texas, Washington, Utah, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Oregon.

Also, StaffDNA said it will become a talent supplier for Kevala’s existing clients.

“We know healthcare professionals want the ability to work on their own terms, so we are thrilled that StaffDNA will be helping our nurse and caregiver network continue to pick up shifts at their favorite facilities while exposing them to new work opportunities as well,” said Kevala CEO Todd Owens. “Kevala will be doubling down on our client-facing technology business, ushering in a new era of AI and automation to more fully manage core scheduling, staffing, and compliance workflows.”

Arora said the two companies have synergy in developing proprietary solutions for healthcare workforce management.

“We’ve been creating technology solutions on our proprietary platform, and we were recently awarded 19 patents,” Arora said. “We’re focused on improving how candidates find jobs and facilities source the right candidates. We want the healthcare ecosystem to work better.”

StaffDNA said its proprietary technology platform enhances its digital hiring marketplace, benefiting over 2 million professionals while establishing a new standard for connecting them with facilities.
