Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day returns for its ninth year on Sept. 14, with added ways to raise funds for area nonprofits.
The event is the region’s 18-hour online giving event that benefits nonprofits in the 16 counties that comprise North Texas.
It’s the largest giving day in the nation, and has generated $156 million for North Texas in the past eight one-day events, Communities Foundation of Texas said in a release.
“The incredible energy and outpouring of support that this community generates each year on North Texas Giving Day is nothing short of remarkable,” Dave Scullin, president and CEO, Communities Foundation of Texas, said in the release.

The day has drawn support from all 50 states and 39 countries around the world.
The 2016 event raised $37 million, with 1,280 Dallas County-based nonprofits benefiting from $22.7 million in North Texas Giving Day donations, Communities Foundation said.
“In the last two years, North Texas Giving Day has helped us raise over $110,000 to help serve over 4,000 children across North Texas,” said Bill Chinn, president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Dallas. “North Texas Giving Day is a fantastic opportunity to impact the lives of thousands of children in one day.”
The event this year starts a week early by offering scheduled giving starting Sept. 7.
On that day, a launch event, Celebration of Giving, will kick off the community movement at Communities Foundation of Texas from 5 to 7 p.m.
Also, nonprofits are raising their own supplementary 1:1 matching funds this year to augment bonus funds and prizes raised by Communities Foundation.

The foundation said that donations up to $10,000 made Sept. 7-14 to the more than 2,500 nonprofits listed on the site will be amplified by the general bonus funds and prizes.
Nonprofits with matching funds will be shown on their own leaderboard on the Giving Day website so donors can follow their favorite nonprofit’s progress throughout the day.
The Dallas County Donation Station will be at NorthPark Center, 8687 NorthPark Center, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 14, and will feature interactive stations for nonprofits around the mall, as well as nonprofit performances.
One $1,953 prize will be drawn to benefit a nonprofit in attendance at the event, the foundation said.
