Innovative Crunch: Dallas Company Launches Line of Pork Rind Croutons

Salad eaters tend to be healthy types, so here’s a new idea for them: Why not go for the gusto and sprinkle some pork rinds onto those greens?

Now a Dallas-based company is making that dream come true. Southern Recipe Small Batch already offers a line of small-batch, handcrafted pork rinds in flavors including Hatch Chile, Spicy Dill, Pineapple and Ancho Chile, and more.

Now they’ve rolled out KRUTONES (pronounced Crew-Tone-Ez), a new line of chicharron croutons that come in two flavors: Italian Style and Butter & Garlic.

And for all you healthy types, the company has some healthy claims for these pork rind croutons, saying they are gluten-free, low carb, and high in collagen, offering “a flavorful alternative to traditional croutons and salad toppers.”

Challenging consumers ‘not to be square’ by using standard croutons

“We’ve worked hard to educate today’s consumer about pork rinds and demystify the category, overall,” Mark Singleton, VP of Sales & Marketing for Southern Recipe Small Batch, said in a statement. “With the opportunity to bring Southern Recipe Small Batch to shoppers in a different part of the grocery store, we’re confident we’ll be able to broaden our audience and adopt new, loyal pork rinds lovers.”

Singleton added that KRUTONES are targeting “casual snackers, dieters, foodies, and everyone in between.”

Southern Recipe Small Batch, a division of Southern Recipe, is part of the Rudolph Foods company, which is based in Lima, Ohio.
