Paragon Energy Solutions, a Fort Worth-based supplier of safety-related products and components for the nuclear industry is partnering with Oregon-based NuScale Power, a provider of proprietary advanced small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear technology and the only provider with design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Paragon said it will supply its CoreVision Neutron Monitoring System technology and its Highly Integrated Protection System (HIPS) to NuScale, whose SMR technology provides a clean, safe, and scalable solution for a wide range of energy needs.
“Paragon is very pleased to continue strengthening our relationship with NuScale, a market leader in the nuclear industry, as we bring new technologies to the industry,” Doug VanTassell, president and CEO of Paragon, said in a statement. “Our philosophies are aligned as we continue to provide innovative energy technology to the fast-growing and critical SMR market. Our technologies continue to power the nuclear industry.”
Corvallis, Oregon-based NuScale will incorporate Paragon’s technologies into ENTRA1 Energy Plants utilizing NuScale SMR technology, Paragon said. The Fort Worth company said that CoreVision, its neutron flux monitoring system, was specifically developed for nuclear generation facilities to provide “reliable, accurate, and modernized monitoring and control of reactor power levels.
Paragon said that HIPS was designed to provide advanced, reliable, and cyber-secure safety-related instrumentation and control (I&C) systems for nuclear power plants, particularly for new-generation designs such as SMRs.

Paragon said the new agreement follows a teaming agreement signed in 2021, which included Paragon in the project development and execution of SMR and advanced reactor markets with Paragon providing a holistic nuclear instrumentation solution that is also safer, more efficient, and comprehensive.
“Our partnership with NuScale supports the industry’s technology needs and advances nuclear technologies to work toward a zero-carbon future,” Paragon Chief Nuclear Officer Tighe Smith said in a statement. “Our arrangement underlines both companies’ commitment to our collective collaboration and to the importance of nuclear energy around the globe.”
NuScale president and CEO John Hopkins said his company “is proud to continue our valuable, strategic partnership with Paragon.
“At NuScale, we’re focused on delivering power that is not only clean and reliable, but most importantly, that is safe, and our partner Paragon is aligned with that mission,” Hopkins added. “Paragon will provide key monitoring and protection capabilities for ENTRA1 Energy Plants utilizing NuScale SMR technology as we prepare for near-term deployment and for bringing safe, always-on energy to users around the world.”
