A Netflix for Pet Lovers: Fort Worth’s Buddi Unleashes 24/7 Streaming Service

The newly launched streaming service buddi is like Netflix for pet lovers. Offering movies such as "Cats and Dogs," "Marley and Me," and "Beethoven," it's feel-good content "by pet people, for pet people."

Many of us are dog lovers or cat lovers—or just pet lovers in general. You know, the kind of person that might want to watch their favorite animal-focused flick at 5 a.m.

A new Fort Worth-based streaming service called buddi is banking on all you pet lovers tuning in to watch movies 24/7 about dogs, cats, horses, and anything else that can be a pet. Think “Cats and Dogs,” “Marley and Me,” and “Beethoven,” buddi suggested.

It’s like Netflix for pet owners.

“Like most people who use streaming services, I used to spend more time scrolling through titles than watching anything,” DFW-based buddi Co-Founder Layla Kasha said in a statement. “We love animals and wanted to create a service for people like us—people who want to watch educational and entertaining content about dogs, cats, and other companion animals that’s fun for people of all ages. So we came up with the idea of buddi to bring together all the animal-related content we could find in one place.”

The company noted that 66% of households include at least one family “critter,” up from 56% in 1988.

Feel-good content ‘by pet people, for pet people’

Developed especially for animal lovers and pet people, buddi curates and creates content that includes ad-free movies, shows, documentaries, and streaming channels straight to your TV or mobile device. The streaming service was launched earlier this year by Kasha and Ryan Sullivan and said it “creates and curates family-friendly content by pet people, for pet people.”

buddi said it’s all “feel-good content” about dogs, cats, horses, and other companion animals.

The new venture said that Americans are spending an increasing amount on streaming every year. In 2024, buddi said, the average household will spend $61 a month for four streaming services, and nearly 90% of adults pay for at least one service.

The startup said that until now, none of those services aimed their content to the massive and increasing demographic of pet parents and animal lovers.

All of its content is family-friendly and commercial free, buddi said.

The streaming service also offers educational content where pet parents can learn about health, nutrition, grooming, traveling with companion animals, and other topics.

buddi costs $7.99 per month or $79 per year, and it offers a free seven-day trial.
