Fetal Care Center Dallas Tapped to Deploy First-in-U.S. Ultrasound Technology

The Dallas maternal-fetal medicine practice calls Samsung's Hera Z20—which uses advanced AI and other features to enhance diagnostic accuracy—a "pre-natal game changer for women's health."

Samsung has selected Fetal Care Center Dallas and its founding partner, Dr. Kevin Magee, as the country’s first medical practice to employ a new premium ultrasound technology called the Hera Z20.

The innovative technology supports enhanced care through diagnostics, empowering doctors to know the most information possible about a woman’s pregnancy and address all options with their patients, the center said.

“As a practicing maternal-fetal medicine physician, I can now see incredible anatomical details inside the womb that I could not see before,” Magee said in a statement.

“This Samsung imaging technology will help us innovate fetal treatments that will save the lives of developing babies that have issues we can mitigate before birth, or those issues we can prepare for after birth,” he said. “The ability to see inside the womb and the fetus with spectacular clarity is a pre-natal game changer for women’s health.”

Utilizing tailored 2D, 3D and color imaging, the Samsung system’s advanced AI and automated features enhance diagnostic accuracy and efficiency, enabling healthcare professionals to focus more on patient care, the center said.

According to Samsung, Live Q-scan and A-Focus features have been newly added to the HERA Z20 device to provide “a more uniform image and sharper image quality.”

The Live Q-scan reduces noises that appear during the ultrasound examination in real-time, and A-Focus “provides clearer images in every scanning depth.” Crystal Architecture, which is Samsung Healthcare proprietary ultrasound imaging technology, also uses the upgraded second-generation engine to increase the clarity of the image, Samsung said.

Specialists in high-risk pregnancies

Since 2007, the staff of Fetal Care Center Dallas, a maternal-fetal medicine practice, has evaluated more than 36,000 high-risk pregnancies, and surgeons in the practice have performed more than 1,200 fetal surgeries.

Using a comprehensive approach combining the talents of specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, fetal surgery, neonatal surgery, genetic counseling, obstetrics, anesthesia, cardiology, fetal cardiology, radiology, nursing and neonatal medicine, the center said its doctors, nurses, and social workers coordinate all aspects of patient care—from diagnosis to postoperative recovery and long-term follow-up for mother and child.

The center said that Magee, who is board-certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine, will speak about his experience with the HERA Z20 at the SMFM 2025 Pregnancy Meeting.
